2,000 Athletes Set for African Military Games in Abuja

Abuja is set to become the epicenter of African sports diplomacy as the 2nd African Military Games (AMGA 2024) kicks off today at the MKO Abiola International Stadium.

The highly anticipated event will feature over 2,000 athletes from 44 countries competing in 19 sports disciplines, fostering unity and strengthening military ties across the continent.

Dubbed Abuja 2024, the games aim to promote friendship among nations and bolster Nigeria’s standing as a hub for sports development.

Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), has assured full collaboration and support to ensure the event’s success.

During a recent meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher G. Musa, Dikko reiterated the NSC’s commitment to partnering with sports federations for a seamless and impactful event.

“These games represent an opportunity to advance sports diplomacy while showcasing Africa’s potential for unity through athletic excellence,” Dikko stated.

The African Military Games, with their unique blend of competition and camaraderie, promise to leave a lasting legacy for Nigeria and the continent, emphasizing the unifying power of sports.
