The Southwest Elders’ Forum of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has refuted claims that an Appeal Court judgment nullified the election of Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, as the union’s national president.
Speaking on Friday, the forum’s coordinator, Alhaji Moshood Ajao, clarified that Akinsanya’s election during the Zonal Delegates Conference in Osogbo on November 9, 2024, remains unaffected by the court ruling delivered in Abuja on November 8, 2024.
“Alhaji Akinsanya was neither a party to the case nor involved in the legal proceedings that were dismissed by the Appeal Court,” Ajao stated. He explained that the court ruling concerned other union disputes and had no bearing on Akinsanya’s presidency.
Ajao emphasized that Akinsanya’s election was a strategic move to restore peace within the union, distancing him from the leadership crises that have plagued the NURTW. “His leadership is focused on unity and stability, and he has remained neutral in the ongoing disputes,” Ajao said.
The clarification follows ongoing controversies over NURTW leadership claims, with Ajao urging members to prioritize the union’s peace and progress under Akinsanya’s leadership.
