The General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri, Borno State, will commence its first international flight operations on January 1, 2025.

This milestone follows ongoing facility upgrades aimed at enhancing connectivity for Nigeria’s North East Zone and establishing Maiduguri as a hub for international travel and cargo transportation.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, visited the airport alongside other delegates, inspecting progress and meeting with stakeholders.

Governor Babagana Zulum commended Keyamo’s efforts in transforming the aviation sector under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and pledged Borno State’s full cooperation to ensure the timely launch of operations.

Keyamo highlighted the project as a significant achievement for the North East, stating that the airport will be the region’s first fully operational international gateway.

“This is a symbol of growth and resilience for the North East,” he said.
