In his address at the University of Ibadan’s Convocation, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has called on Nigerians to recognize their pivotal role in national development.
Speaking at Trenchard Hall, IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the path to sustainable progress relies on active collaboration among citizens, security agencies, and government bodies.
Highlighting the need for integrity, patriotism, and civic engagement, the IGP urged Nigerians to embrace their constitutional duties as a foundation for a cooperative society.
“National development,” he stated, “is not a task for government alone; it is a shared mission.”
He outlined how the interplay of security, governance, and civic responsibility strengthens democratic principles, paving the way for effective policy implementation and peace.
Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to security, IGP Egbetokun spotlighted community policing as a model of citizen-police partnership that has enhanced public safety and reduced crime by fostering trust and cooperation.
His lecture served as a rallying call for Nigerians to step up as active contributors to the nation’s future, promoting a more inclusive and communal approach to development.
