Moses Alalade, National Ex-Officio of the National Association of University Students, has called on young Nigerians to equip themselves with skills suited for “green jobs”—roles that contribute to environmental sustainability.
“Green jobs are crucial not only for protecting our environment but also for providing meaningful employment opportunities,” Alalade stated on Monday.
He emphasized that careers in sustainable energy are pivotal to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7, which targets universal access to affordable and clean energy.
Alalade highlighted the role young professionals with green skills can play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate risks.
As a former Chapter President of Student Energy—a non-profit dedicated to empowering youth in clean energy—Alalade has led multiple initiatives, including the Switch and Spark Initiatives, to raise awareness among Nigerian students about sustainability.
He urged the Nigerian government, industry leaders, and educational institutions to support programs that empower youth in the growing sustainable energy sector.
“We urge the government and industry stakeholders to champion programs that create opportunities for young professionals in clean energy, helping to build a workforce prepared to tackle the challenges of a low-carbon future,” he said.
