Thirteen students of Federal Government College (FGC), Enugu have been suspended by the Federal Ministry of Education following their alleged involvement in a bullying incident captured in a viral video.
The six-week suspension, announced Wednesday in Abuja by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Folashade Boriowo, underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding school environments.
Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa ordered the disciplinary measure after a video surfaced showing a group of students allegedly assaulting an SS1 day student.
The footage, widely shared on social media, prompted the ministry to investigate the incident and address growing concerns over student welfare.
In response to the report, the Ministry established a disciplinary committee to review the evidence and enforce appropriate action.
All 13 students implicated are on a six-week suspension, pending further findings.
Dr. Alausa emphasized the importance of a safe educational atmosphere, noting that the incident has spurred additional security measures on campus and a collaboration between school management and security agencies.
The Ministry’s response also includes the introduction of counseling and rehabilitation programs to support affected students, aiming to foster a positive school culture.
