Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has cautioned Nigerian youth that the absence of their participation in politics will continue to allow bad leaders to rise to power.
Speaking at the third convocation of Precious Cornerstone University in Ibadan on Monday, Makinde emphasized the importance of ethical people in governance, warning that a lack of youth involvement creates space for unethical politicians to dominate.
Addressing the graduates on “Faith, Leadership and Governance: Preparing the Next Generation for Ethical Leadership in Nigeria,” Makinde urged them to consider engaging in politics, despite the perception that it is a “dirty” field.
“If the good ones are not coming into that space, it will be filled with unethical people,” he said, encouraging young people to learn ethical leadership practices.
Makinde advised graduates to model responsible leaders, surround themselves with quality people, and listen to sound advice.
“Ethical leaders know what true leadership means. They know it is about responsibility toward the broader community. That is why Oyo State will always put the people first,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the public.
