IGP Hosts Workshop on Investigation Standards, Emphasizes Child-Friendly Policing

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, led a workshop for heads of Police Investigation units in Abuja on November 11, 2024, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to professional, standardized investigations and child-friendly practices.

Held at the Nigeria Police Resource Center, the workshop focused on enhancing the skills and ethics of police investigators.

A key lecture, “The Child Justice System in Nigeria: An Overview,” was presented by Professor Ayodele Atseluwa from the University of Lagos, addressing the importance of rights-based, supportive policing practices for children.

IGP Egbetokun affirmed the Force’s commitment to upholding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, prioritizing respectful, non-traumatic methods in child-related cases.

Additionally, CP Hycenth Edozie, head of the Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Unit, provided specialized training on countering terrorism and financial crimes.

The Nigeria Police Force emphasized that ongoing training in investigative practices and child protection is vital to building a just, secure society with a police force equipped to protect citizens’ rights at all levels.
