The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, Olubunmi Johnson, for allegedly setting his wife, Kikelomo ablaze in their apartment on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, in Ota, Ogun State.

An eyewitness said on Saturday evening that the incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, following a marital disagreement.

While the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation are unknown at the time of this report, Omolola Odutola, a spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed to our correspondent that Johnson has been held in connection with the crime.

Our correspondent learned that a neighbor who watched the incident called the victim’s relatives, who then informed the police, who are now investigating an attempted murder.

Odutola told our correspondent that police officers from the Ilogbo Division responded promptly, arresting the 55-year-old suspect.

“The husband doused his wife’s body with petrol and set her on fire with a match. Witnesses to the incident immediately rushed her to the hospital.

“Upon receiving the report, our detectives quickly took action and arrested the husband, who has since been detained,” Odutola said.
