In a landmark initiative to reduce maternal mortality, the Nigerian government has unveiled a program offering free cesarean sections to women in need across the nation.
Announced by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Pate, this life-saving measure aims to prevent childbirth complications and ensure safer deliveries for countless Nigerian mothers.
Professor Pate introduced the program during the Nigeria Health Sector-Wide Joint Annual Review in Abuja, calling it an “ambitious commitment to reduce maternal and newborn mortality.”
Addressing attendees, he emphasized that no woman should face life-threatening risks or lose her life simply because of financial constraints.
The initiative’s launch was echoed on social media, with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare declaring, “Cesarean Sections for all Nigerian women who need them will now be FREE!”
The announcement highlights the government’s resolve to dismantle financial barriers that have hindered access to essential maternal care for many Nigerians.
With Nigeria’s maternal mortality rates among the highest globally, this free C-section policy is seen as a decisive step toward reversing the statistics, providing hope and safety for expectant mothers nationwide.
