In a surprising move, Stephen Abuwatseya, the Bolt driver allegedly assaulted by Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, House Representative for Aba North/South, has publicly forgiven the lawmaker, urging Nigerians to “forgive and forget.”
The incident, which quickly went viral, reportedly began when Ikwechegh slapped Abuwatseya, damaged his phone, and refused payment after a delivery dispute.
Initially, Abuwatseya filed a complaint with police, leading to an investigation and Ikwechegh’s scheduled arraignment. But in a Thursday video statement, Abuwatseya expressed regret over his role in the altercation.
“I apologize to Hon. Ikwechegh for any actions that may have provoked him,” he stated, while calling on Nigerians to avoid divisions along tribal, religious, or regional lines.
Referencing the Lord’s Prayer, he reminded viewers, “There is no justice without forgiveness.” Abuwatseya also extended thanks to his family and supporters, declaring his hope to move past the incident in the spirit of national unity.
His unexpected plea has since sparked debate, with some applauding his call for peace, while others demand accountability.
