The FCT Police Command has arrested three individuals who were impersonating police and DSS officers in connection with a “one chance” robbery scheme.
The arrests were made in different parts of the FCT, with three of the suspects believed to be part of a gang specializing in masquerading as security operatives.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, revealed this during a media briefing on Wednesday, saying the suspects, along with nine others, were apprehended following recent complaints.
The suspects are accused of targeting unsuspecting victims, driving them to unknown locations, and demanding ransom for their release.
On October 12, two victims, Jeremiah David and Amaka Humina, reported to the Anti-One Chance Office that they were stopped by the suspects, who were in a white Toyota Camry (Registration number ABJ 221 BV), while traveling from Keffi to Abuja.
The suspects identified themselves as DSS officers, forcibly removed the victims from the car, and took them to an undisclosed location. They then demanded money for their release and transferred N400,000 from the victims’ accounts using their phones.
The suspects also stole several phones, including an iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung S20, and Samsung S8 Plus. Upon investigation, police operatives tracked down and arrested the suspects. Six vehicles and one locally made Beretta pistol were recovered.
On October 30, the police received another report from Kubwa, where a Golf III Saloon vehicle, used by suspected “one chance” operators, was set on fire along with their gang leader.
