The Proactive Coalition of Nigerians (PROCON) has condemned Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar for his recent policy advice to President Bola Tinubu.

The coalition described Atiku’s statement as interference in Nigeria’s democratic process and called it a last attempt to revive his unsuccessful presidential ambition.

Atiku, who ran as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate in the 2023 election, recently shared a statement titled “What We Would Have Done Differently.” In it, he criticized the current government’s handling of fuel subsidy removal and fiscal policies, suggesting alternative policies he would have implemented.

“I hope Tinubu and his administration are humble enough to borrow one or two things from our ideas in the interest of the Nigerian people,” he said.

In response, PROCON released a statement through its national president, David Onuh, condemning Atiku’s suggestions as “outdated ideas.”

The coalition argued that Nigerians rejected Atiku’s vision for governance in 2023, preferring Tinubu’s approach. PROCON criticized Atiku’s support for subsidy removal without addressing underlying structural issues, accusing him of putting profits over people.

“The choice of Asiwaju over Atiku was a collective decision by Nigerians, reflecting a consensus that Atiku’s leadership style was not compatible with Nigeria’s progress,” Onuh said.

The coalition also raised concerns about Atiku’s history of privatization policies, arguing that they risk concentrating national resources in the hands of a few.

PROCON noted that Nigerians preferred Tinubu’s focus on economic diversity and regional unity over what it views as Atiku’s “profit-driven agenda.”

The coalition argued that Tinubu’s leadership, grounded in social inclusivity and long-term benefits, better aligns with Nigeria’s needs.

Onuh concluded, “Atiku’s proposals are outdated and do not resonate with the public, who desire leaders focused on the country’s growth rather than self-serving agendas. The coalition urges Atiku to respect the people’s choice and allow the current administration to implement its vision for Nigeria.”
