Former Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh has said it is important for the Super Eagles to earn a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles failed to qualify for last edition of the global soccer fiesta hosted by Qatar.

The West Africans have endured a poor start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign failing to record a win from four games.

Augustine Eguavoen’s side are second from bottom in their group with three points.

Oliseh said it would be a disaster if they failed to qualify for the mundial for the second consecutive time.

“Africa could be represented by as many as 10 countries at the next World Cup, we’re at the risk of not being one of these countries and it will be a disaster if Nigeria do not qualify,” Oliseh said.

“I was at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for six weeks working on the FIFA study Group and it was painful that Nigeria were not there.”
