The Ogun State government has issued a stern warning to petrol stations in the state, cautioning against tampering with fuel meters as this unethical practice will lead to strict sanctions.

Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, emphasized during a meeting in Abeokuta with the state’s monitoring committee that the administration is committed to ensuring motorists and residents receive fair value on fuel purchases.

Dairo explained that the monitoring team was created to address issues in fuel pricing and transport fares while curbing sharp practices, like meter tampering, that impose additional financial stress on residents amid rising fuel costs.

“We will not condone any sharp practices that could shortchange residents,” he stated, adding that any union failing to uphold agreed resolutions on fair pricing would be seen as opposing government efforts.

He reassured citizens of the government’s commitment to easing economic hardships during these challenging times.
