In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Nollywood actress Ufuoma revealed her 12-year battle with chronic kidney disease. The 43-year-old actress shared that she was initially diagnosed with stage three, but it eventually progressed to stage four.
Reflecting on her journey, she admitted that she feared for her life due to her decision not to follow her doctors’ advice. “My weight—people don’t understand when I say I can’t afford to put on weight. I don’t want to die. I have little children,” she explained. “I had pushed my body, and it was borderline stage four.”
“Last year was an especially trying time,” she continued. “I genuinely thought I was going to die. I had been negotiating with my doctor, who advised me to go home and rest.”
Ufuoma recalled pleading with her doctor, promising to rest after one more day on set. “But she said, ‘Ufuoma, I need you to sleep now. If you can, take something to help you rest. I need your blood pressure to drop.’”
After the doctor carefully adjusted her medications, Ufuoma returned to set, determined to keep going despite the challenges.
