The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), announced the restoration of electricity to several northern states, including Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe.

This update follows a nine-day total blackout across the northwest, northeast, and parts of north-central Nigeria due to a vandalized transmission line, which led to public outcry and the deployment of armed forces to protect repair crews.

According to TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the company restored bulk power through the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 at 4:56 p.m. on Wednesday. This action reactivated the Apir-Lafia 330kV line 2, reestablishing power supply in the affected states.

Mbah noted that TCN’s engineering team is preparing to repair the second vandalized 330kV transmission line.

Materials for the repairs are ready and work will begin once the site is secured. Team of linesmen will also re-patrol the 330kV line 2 to ensure no further disruptions as repairs proceed.
