The Industrial Court in Akure, Ondo State, has ordered the immediate reinstatement of Dr. Niyi Akingbe, a former lecturer in the Department of English and Literary Studies, following his dismissal by the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) management.
In the ruling, Hon. Justice K. D. Damulak directed that Dr. Akingbe be reinstated with full entitlements, including his promotion and financial benefits. The court also awarded him N40 million in damages, mandating payment within 30 days.
Dr. Akingbe and his colleague, Dr. Adeyemi, were dismissed by FUOYE in 2018 over allegations of misappropriating Tetfund grants. Both lecturers have consistently maintained their innocence, describing the accusations as unfounded and part of a larger campaign by university management.
