The Nigeria Police Force is set to arraign House of Representatives member, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, for assaulting e-hailing cab driver, Mr. Steven Abuwatseya, in Abuja.
Abuwatseya alleged that Ikwechegh verbally and physically assaulted him over a delivery disagreement, captured in a viral video. The lawmaker was seen slapping Abuwatseya, using derogatory language, and threatening to make him “disappear.”
Ikwechegh apologized to his colleagues and Nigerians, but was questioned by the Federal Capital Territory Command for belittling the Inspector-General of Police.
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the arraignment, stating, “We are on our way to Kuje Magistrate Court for the arraignment of the honourable member who assaulted our client. The IGP’s SPECIAL INVESTIGATION UNIT (SIU) is handling the investigation and prosecution.”
