Former presidential spokesman Dr. Doyin Okupe has praised President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which involves the elimination of “superfluous ministries.” This bold decision aims to streamline government operations and enhance efficiency.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, Okupe asserted, “President Tinubu has taken the necessary steps with his mid-term cabinet rejig.” He emphasized that the removal of unnecessary ministries aligns with the goal of reducing waste and making the government more effective.
What’s more, Okupe highlighted that this reshuffle is not merely a sentimental act; it is backed by an in-house key performance index report and the involvement of KPMG for a critical assessment of ministers’ performance.
With the dismissal of five ministers—including Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs) and Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education)—and the appointment of seven new ones, Okupe noted that Nigerians are now looking for decisive action from the President and his new cabinet to tackle pressing national issues.
He expressed optimism in the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, believing that Tinubu possesses the leadership qualities essential to navigate Nigeria out of its economic turmoil since he assumed office in May 2023.
