Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has voiced frustration over the slow progress of the reconstruction and landscaping work at Okrika Grammar School in Okrika Local Government Area. During an inspection visit to the site on Monday, the governor expressed disappointment at the discrepancy between the updates provided by the Commissioner for Education and the actual state of the project.
Governor Fubara noted that the commissioner had reported that 70% of the work had been completed, but what he observed on-site was far below expectations. He announced plans to personally oversee the project’s supervision to ensure that timelines and standards are met, saying, “I need to take over the supervision of this project to make sure I give my people a standard grammar school again.”
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara emphasized that Okrika Grammar School holds personal significance to him and the community. He expressed his commitment to restoring the school, which has produced many notable individuals in politics and other fields, to its former status as a premier institution in the state.
The governor also visited the Woji-Akpajo-Alesa-Eleme-Port Harcourt Refinery Road and bridge construction site to assess the progress of work on these vital infrastructure projects.
Fubara stressed the importance of meeting project specifications and deadlines, warning contractors that non-compliance will not be tolerated. He stated that a meeting with the contractors would be convened immediately to address the situation and ensure the projects move forward as planned.
