Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully apprehended a suspected kidnapper following a fierce encounter with a gang of kidnappers in the Kubwa area of Abuja on Friday.
The incident unfolded in the early hours when the kidnappers infiltrated an estate in the area. Upon encountering the police, the criminals opened fire and fled into a nearby swamp. In pursuit, the police captured one suspect and recovered a vehicle used by the gang.
Confirming the operation, FCT Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu disclosed that several weapons were seized from the suspect. “We recovered an AK-47 rifle with 20 live rounds of ammunition and a Beretta pistol loaded with 12 rounds,” Disu said.
He commended the swift action of a resident who alerted the police, emphasizing the importance of prompt reporting. “This successful intervention was due to a resident’s timely call. We urge people to report suspicious activities immediately instead of standing by,” Disu remarked.
He assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. “We are making frantic efforts to arrest the remaining suspects. We thank the individual who called us and encourage others to do the same in similar situations,” he added.
The Commissioner reiterated the importance of the public’s vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement, urging residents to utilize the command’s emergency lines for quick response.
