President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Wahid Enitan Oshodi of Nigeria on his election as President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF).
Oshodi, the former Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Social Development, and Deputy President of ATTF, was elected during the federation’s annual general meeting on October 15 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy) today, the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described Oshodi’s victory as a proud moment for Nigeria, reflecting the broad support he received in the run-up to the election. Nominated by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) and endorsed by several African nations, Oshodi’s election highlights the trust placed in his leadership by the continent’s sporting community.
“Oshodi’s election is a vote of confidence in a seasoned sports administrator who has devoted his time, energy, and resources to grassroots table tennis development while demonstrating integrity, accountability, and dedication,” President Tinubu stated.
The President expressed optimism that Oshodi’s leadership will inspire sports enthusiasts and advance the sport across Africa. Tinubu emphasized that Oshodi’s extensive experience positions him to elevate ATTF to new heights.
Oshodi, who previously served as President of the NTTF, currently holds leadership roles on the boards of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation (CTTF) and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
His journey in sports administration began in 2000 when then-Governor Bola Tinubu appointed him to the Lagos State Sports Council. As chairman of the Lagos State Table Tennis Association, he was later appointed Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Social Development by Governor Babatunde Fashola in 2011. During his tenure, Oshodi successfully managed the “Eko 2012” National Sports Festival, earning recognition for his excellence in sports management.
President Tinubu applauded Oshodi’s passion and commitment to table tennis and assured him of Nigeria’s continued goodwill and support as he embarks on his new role leading the ATTF.
