The newly elected Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has removed the name of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, from the administrative block of the council secretariat.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and ex-chairman of the local council, is from the Rumuepirikom community in Obio Akpor LGA. His name, which was previously engraved on the council building, has been replaced by that of late politician and activist Senator Dr. Obi Wali.
In a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page, Ihunwo documented the replacement process, stating, “We have changed Wike’s name in the admin block of Obio/Akpor Council and replaced it with the name of SENATOR DR. OBI WALI.”
This change comes shortly after Ihunwo and 22 other local council chairpersons were sworn in by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following their election. The Action Peoples Party won 22 of the 23 council seats in the recent poll.
