The Director General of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), General Lawal B. Muhammad (retired), was shot by bandits during an attack in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The attack occurred at Kucheri village, where bandits had blocked the busy Funtua-Tsafe road, targeting motorists late Sunday evening.
During the ambush, several passengers were abducted as the bandits unleashed violence on travelers. General Muhammad was caught in the crossfire and sustained gunshot wounds. He is currently receiving medical treatment. A source from the Zamfara State Ministry of Internal Security confirmed the incident.
This assault follows a string of violent encounters in the area, including the recent killing of eight CPG personnel and a commercial driver in Tsafe LGA. Bandits had also engaged soldiers in a gunfight at Unguwar Chida village, where a commercial driver was killed and three soldiers injured. Despite efforts by authorities to curb the banditry plaguing Zamfara State, the attacks continue to escalate, creating widespread fear and insecurity among residents.
General Muhammad had previously stationed CPG personnel in Tsafe to protect travelers, but the bandits reportedly ambushed the guards before the security forces could take defensive action.
