On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denounced US efforts in Asia as “destructive”, charging Washington with instigating Japan’s “militarization” and trying to incite other nations against China and Russia.
“It is evident that US actions in this region of the world are destructive,” Lavrov told reporters during an East Asia Summit in Laos.
“Ideas about creating military blocs always carry risks of confrontation that could escalate,” Lavrov responded when asked about Japan’s proposal for an Asian alliance modeled after NATO.
He stated, “It is clear that the United States is pressuring the Japanese to take this direction.
According to Lavrov, the summit’s final statement “could not be adopted” because the US, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia had attempted to make it “deeply politicised.”
According to him, Western nations seek to take use of their connections with ASEAN “above all against the interests of Russia and China.”
