Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that two of the three bus and taxi terminals currently under construction in Abuja will be completed by January 2024, well ahead of schedule. Speaking on Tuesday during an inspection of the ongoing projects, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress made, stating, “No bus or taxi will be permitted to run on the FCT road” once the terminals are operational.
The terminals, located at Mabushi, Eagle Square, and Kugbo, were originally set to be completed over a 15-month period, but the contractor has assured early delivery of the Mabushi and Kugbo terminals by January—nine months ahead of the expected timeline.
The new transportation hubs are part of the FCT Administration’s broader strategy to enhance commuter safety and convenience. Wike explained that these terminals will improve security and reduce congestion by serving as designated pick-up and drop-off points for buses and taxis, which will no longer be allowed to operate on the city’s roads.
The project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” aiming to strengthen infrastructure and combat insecurity in the capital. The Minister emphasized that this development represents a critical step in improving transportation efficiency and public safety in the FCT.
