Nigerian singer Sydney Esiri, popularly known as Dr Sid, has confirmed that he has relocated to the United States.
During a recent appearance on the No Man’s Friend podcast, the Over The Moon hitmaker shared that he moved to the U.S. after landing a job with a company based in New York.
“I now live in the U.S. I left Nigeria last year after I got a job with a company in New York, which gave me the opportunity to relocate. I could live anywhere in the U.S., so I chose Houston, Texas, because my family is here, and my best friend also lives here. I’ve been working here for the last year and a half,” he explained.
Dr Sid first rose to fame in 2002 when he joined Da Trybe and featured on the hip-hop hit Oya, alongside Sasha, 2-Shotz, Timi, DEL, and the Trybesmen (Eldee, Kb, and Freestyle).
A year later, he released his debut solo single Don’t Stop. However, he briefly stepped away from music to complete his university education, becoming a qualified dentist.
Afterward, he relocated to the UK, where he worked with artists like JJC & the 419 Squad, Felix Duke, KAS, R70, and D’Prince. In 2005, Dr Sid began recording a studio album titled Prognosis, which included the single Raise Da Roof, though the album was later shelved.
In 2007, Dr Sid left his dental career after three years to focus on music full-time, signing with Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records. His debut solo album Turning Point dropped in April 2010, featuring hits like Over The Moon and Pop Something.
After the fallout between Mo’ Hits founders D’banj and Don Jazzy in 2012, Dr Sid signed with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records. He released his sophomore album Siduction in December 2013 under the label.
In 2014, Dr Sid made his acting debut in Moses Inwang’s film The Last 3 Digits, where he played an NYSC corp member and friend to Nonso Diobi’s character.
