The Joint Tax Board (JTB) has announced new rates for the issuance of national driver’s licenses and vehicle number plates, set to take effect from November 1, 2024. The revised fees are part of efforts to enhance the quality and security of these identification documents, in line with international standards.

Under the new rates, a three-year motor vehicle driver’s license will now cost N15,000, while the five-year license will be N21,000. Motorcycle and tricycle drivers will also face price increases, with a three-year license costing N7,000 and a five-year license priced at N11,000.

Vehicle owners will now pay a minimum of N30,000 for both standard private and commercial number plates. Fancy number plates are set to cost N400,000, while motorcycle number plates will be priced at N12,000. A dealer motor vehicle number plate will cost N100,000.

Government number plates will also see adjustments, with the fancy motor vehicle number plate priced at N120,000, the standard motor vehicle plate at N80,000, the fancy motorcycle number plate at N50,000, and the standard motorcycle plate at N20,000.

The JTB noted that the revised rates are designed to provide enhanced security features, improving identification processes for both drivers and vehicles across the country. Olusegun Adesokan, Secretary of the JTB, emphasized that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been tasked with raising public awareness and educating the public on the new rates.

“The secretariat has requested that the FRSC notify the JTB of its public engagement and sensitization plans,” Adesokan stated. He expressed confidence that proper public engagement would ensure a smooth implementation of the revised rates.
