IGP Approves Compensation for Officers Affected in Kano Accident, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved immediate financial compensation for the families of police officers involved in a tragic accident on September 24, 2024. The accident occurred along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, as officers were returning to Kano State Command from special duty during the Edo elections.

 

The accident claimed the lives of five officers, while 11 others were hospitalized. Of those injured, eight have been discharged, with three still receiving treatment.

 

In response, IGP Egbetokun approved a compensatory payment of N10 million to the families of the deceased officers. Additionally, N2 million has been allocated to the officers still receiving medical treatment, and N500,000 will be given to each of the eight officers who have been discharged.

 

“The IGP reaffirms the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting officers and men of the Force and their families during trying times,” the police statement read. The IGP also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased officers and wished a swift recovery for those still undergoing treatment.
