The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives in Ondo State, has given Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa a 15-day ultimatum to address their challenges or risk industrial action.
The association stated that the decision arose following the failure of Mr Aiyedatiwa’s government to address several issues affecting its members despite several correspondences to his office.
The notice is contained in a statement signed by the state Chairman of the association, Orobode Felix, and the Secretary, Ayenioye Olabisi.
Peoples Gazette obtained a copy of the statement on Tuesday in Akure, the state capital.
The demands of the nurses were on the implementation of upward review of the consolidated health salary structure, payment of hazard allowances, shortage of nurses in the state hospitals, commencement and payment of uniform allowance,
Other demands include upward review of allowances for NYSC nurses, security challenges within the health sector of the state, lack of health facilities, lateral conversion, and wrong demotion of nurses, among others.
Observing that nurses had long been the backbone of the health sector in the state through tireless dedication and selflessness, they noted that the ultimatum would begin midnight on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, if their demands were not met.
“Despite these difficulties, nurses in Ondo state remain committed to delivering the best possible healthcare services, day and night. However, our efforts have not been reciprocated with adequate attention to our welfare from the government.
“We believe that the prompt resolution of these issues is vital to maintaining a motivated and efficient nursing workforce in Ondo State. In this regard, we hereby issue a 15-day ultimatum, starting from 12 midnight of 8th October 2024, for the state government to address our demands. Failure to address these demands leaves us with no option but to consider industrial action. We remain committed to dialogue and partnership with the government in our pursuit of improved healthcare services in Ondo State,” it read.
