The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has called for professionalism and strict adherence to the rules of engagement as 135 officers successfully completed the 2024 Batch A Basic Arms Training.

Speaking at the passing-out parade in Abuja, Odumosu emphasized that these principles are critical to the Corps’ mission to protect lives and property. He commended the officers for completing months of rigorous regimentation and training that adhered to global standards.

“Consequently, a total of 135 personnel were retrained and equipped with knowledge and skills in weapon handling through months of rigorous regimentation, defined by global standards. These officers are now ready to be deployed. This is a significant step taken to tackle the challenges of vandalism and other crimes impeding the peace and development of the Federal Capital Territory in particular, and the nation as a whole,” Odumosu stated.

The Commandant explained that the training was not only to sharpen their weapon handling abilities but also to embed an understanding of the ethical responsibilities that come with such authority.

“As you step into your roles, remember that to whom much is given, much is expected. In the discharge of your duties, always bear in mind the rules of engagement. Be professional in handling your rifles,” he urged.

This passing-out ceremony marked a key achievement for the FCT Command, as it was the first time the training was entirely conducted by the Command’s instructors, aligning with the Corps’ commitment to enhancing internal capabilities while ensuring adherence to ethical standards.

Odumosu reminded the officers of their duty to maintain vigilance, discipline, and professionalism as they perform their duties. “Protect yourself, protect your rifle, and protect lives and property,” he said.

The Commandant also highlighted the progress made by the NSCDC in tackling vandalism and theft, noting that over 120 suspects had been arrested since the beginning of the year, with many convictions secured.

“From January this year to date, the Command has arrested over 120 individuals suspected of vandalising public facilities and theft. Out of these numerous cases, we have secured many court convictions, with others still pending. With this new set of trainees, the Command is better positioned to surpass our achievements in the fight against vandalism and the protection of lives and property,” Odumosu concluded.
