My Son Is Not a Monster —Diddy’s Mother

Published

By Cynthia Abbah

Following the arrest of American rapper Diddy on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, his mother, Janice Combs, has spoken out. In a statement issued by her lawyer, Natlie G. Figger, she defended her son, asserting, “He made mistakes in the past, as we all have; he is not the monster they have painted him to be.”

Janice expressed her heartbreak over the way her son is being judged, stating, “It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies.” While acknowledging that Diddy may not have been entirely truthful about certain aspects of his past, including denying violence against an ex-girlfriend despite surveillance evidence, she emphasized the complexity of the situation. “Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story,” she added.

In her statement, she referred to Diddy’s tumultuous relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, claiming it was marked by abuse—an allegation the rapper has consistently denied until recent leaked footage surfaced. Janice suggested that Diddy’s decision to settle the lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend was misinterpreted by the federal government as an admission of guilt.

“It is truly agonizing to watch the world turn against my son so quickly and easily over lies and misconceptions, without ever hearing his side,” she lamented, also suggesting that some of Diddy’s accusers may be motivated by financial gain.

Diddy was arrested on September 17, 2024, at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan, taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations. Initially placed on suicide watch, he was later taken off and allowed family visits.
