The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reiterated its determination to sustain efforts in combating smuggling across the country’s borders.
Speaking at the News Agency of Nigeria’s (NAN) 1st Annual International Lecture held on Thursday in Abuja, the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized NCS’s commitment to tackling smuggling as part of its constitutional duties, especially to curb the proliferation of arms and other contraband. Adeniyi noted that these efforts have been yielding positive results.
He highlighted that the event was timely in light of President Bola Tinubu’s recent economic reforms, which require a conducive environment for effective implementation. He also praised NAN’s investment in expanding its role within the media through various products and services.
Adeniyi noted that a recent meeting with media representatives revealed that the newspaper industry requires intervention to secure better access to printing materials, urging editors to support the president in addressing this challenge.
In his goodwill message, the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, lauded NAN for organizing an event that brought together prominent security experts to address solutions for insecurity in the Sahel region. He expressed confidence that the event would produce effective, local solutions to the ongoing security challenges.
