Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has escalated his ongoing feud with fellow artist Davido, taking their rivalry to a personal level by throwing shade at Davido’s family.
The Ojuelegba hitmaker appeared to aim a fresh jab at Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon. Governor Adeleke, often dubbed the “Dancing Governor” due to his viral dance videos, became the target of Wizkid’s subtle shade.
Wizkid, who had begun criticizing Davido earlier in the week, calling him “wack” and “talentless,” intensified the attack by referencing Davido’s family. In a tweet posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Wizkid wrote, “When you see people whose parents and family trained them, you’ll know! You don’t see my uncle dancing online!” The comment was widely interpreted as a direct dig at Governor Adeleke, known for his energetic dance performances, both during his campaigns and in personal moments shared on social media.
Wizkid didn’t stop there. Over the past few days, he has unleashed a barrage of criticisms aimed at Davido. In one post, he declared, “The music industry is tired of overhyped artists with no real talent,” a comment fans quickly interpreted as a shot at Davido, who is often considered one of the most popular but polarizing figures in Afrobeats.
Wizkid further taunted Davido’s musical skills, saying, “Some people are only famous because they were born into wealth. Talent is what truly counts in this game.” This was seen as a clear reference to Davido, whose father is a wealthy Nigerian businessman. Wizkid’s jabs appear to call into question Davido’s authenticity as a self-made artist, implying that his career was largely boosted by his family’s financial resources.
He also went on to criticize Davido’s musical prowess, writing, “Real music is timeless. Not all that noise you hear nowadays,” seemingly discrediting Davido’s more upbeat, party-oriented tracks that have dominated airwaves in recent years.
Despite the public and personal nature of Wizkid’s attacks, Davido has yet to respond to any of the criticisms. Known for his confident personality and bold statements, fans are waiting to see whether the DMW boss will engage or choose to remain silent, letting the comments fade away. Some speculate that Davido may not want to fan the flames further, given Wizkid’s decision to involve family members.
Wizkid and Davido have had an off-and-on rivalry that has spanned several years. Although both artists have occasionally expressed mutual respect, tensions frequently resurface, driven by fan comparisons and their status as two of Nigeria’s top music exports. Over the years, the rivalry has largely stayed within the professional realm, but Wizkid’s latest comments about Davido’s family represent a new low point in their public exchanges.
Wizkid’s statements have sparked widespread reactions on social media. While some fans of Wizkid are praising him for speaking his mind, many are criticizing the singer for what they perceive as unnecessary attacks on a fellow artist and a political figure. Supporters of Davido, in particular, are pushing back, defending their favorite star’s talent and achievements, calling Wizkid’s comments “unprovoked” and “childish.”
There’s also concern over the involvement of Governor Adeleke, a political leader with responsibilities beyond his personal life, and how this feud could reflect on public discourse.
Whether Davido will respond or choose to rise above the situation remains to be seen, but Wizkid’s remarks have undoubtedly added fuel to their already tense relationship.
