President Bola Tinubu has granted approval to the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to deploy electric-powered vehicles in a bid to address transportation challenges in the North-East region.
The commission’s chairman, General Paul Tarfa (retd), revealed this on Wednesday after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tarfa said that the NEDC is making plans to build a 5kVA or 10kVA solar-powered grid to help bridge existing power supply gaps in the region.
He further noted that, beyond electric vehicles designed to carry more passengers and goods, electric tricycles are also expected to be introduced to ease movement across the region.
