Bukola Idowu, Executive Director of Kimpact Development Initiative, expressed concern over widespread vote buying during the Edo State governorship elections. Idowu noted that voter inducements ranged from ₦1,000 to ₦10,000 and material incentives, undermining the election’s credibility. Despite this, she commended the peaceful nature of the exercise.
Idowu stated that the election showcased a mix of commendable and alarming aspects. While praising the relative peace and security professionalism, she noted a few incidents of violence and disruption. Technical issues caused most malfunctioning BVAS machines, and ad-hoc officers lacked password details.
The KDI’s post-election report contains a detailed assessment of the election.
