The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient in the face of the nation’s ongoing challenges, assuring that the brightest days for the country are yet to come. Speaking at the Inter-denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja on Sunday, as part of the activities marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, Akpabio emphasized that while there will be setbacks, Nigeria’s spirit of determination will ultimately prevail.

Addressing the congregation, Akpabio acknowledged the various difficulties Nigeria is grappling with across multiple sectors, but he called for unity and patience, stressing that the journey to actualizing the “Nigeria of our dreams” is just beginning. “Yes, the road ahead may be bumpy, and yes, there will be setbacks,” he stated. “But together, united in our faith and love for Nigeria, we will prevail.”

He urged Nigerians to remain patient, adding that hope and belief in change are essential as the country moves towards prosperity. “I urge each of you to be patient, to hold on to hope, and to believe that change is not only possible but inevitable. Nigeria’s brightest days are ahead of us. Together, with unwavering belief, we will build a nation that our children and generations to come will be proud of,” he said.

Akpabio, who previously served as governor of Akwa Ibom State, praised the resilience and indomitable spirit of Nigerians, which he described as the hallmark of the nation’s survival through its turbulent history. He pointed out that Nigeria has consistently risen above adversity and united in the face of challenges, citing the nation’s ability to overcome colonial rule and weather post-independence crises as evidence of this enduring strength.

“From our earliest struggles for independence to the challenges of modern governance, we have continually shown our indomitable spirit,” Akpabio remarked. “When faced with adversity, we rise. When confronted with challenges, we unite. Today, I thank God for the Nigerian spirit that has led us through turbulent times, across our Red Seas and Jordan Rivers, over our hills and mountains, and through every valley we have encountered.”

Reflecting on Nigeria’s historical journey, Akpabio urged citizens to celebrate the milestones that have been achieved over the years, acknowledging that each achievement is a testament to the collective strength and determination of Nigerians. He called on the nation to remain steadfast, emphasizing that President Bola Tinubu’s administration, through its renewed hope agenda, is committed to revitalizing the economy, empowering the people, and improving the lives of the most vulnerable.

“As we commemorate Nigeria’s independence today, let us celebrate the achievements that have brought us this far. Every milestone we have crossed is a testament to our collective will, strength, and determination as Nigerians,” Akpabio said. “Our nation is in the process of a renewed hope project that is tailored to rejuvenate our economy, empower our people, and lift up the most vulnerable among us.”

Akpabio concluded by reminding Nigerians that while the nation’s journey may be fraught with obstacles, perseverance and unity will be key in achieving the country’s full potential. He called on all citizens to remain hopeful, to keep faith in the country’s leadership, and to work together to build a prosperous future for generations to come.
