The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the tragic deaths of five police officers who lost their lives in a fatal accident while returning from an official assignment in Edo State. The incident occurred two weeks ago, and the officers were part of a larger group who had been deployed for a national duty.
Ganduje conveyed his heartfelt condolences during a visit to Bichi town in Kano State on Saturday, where he met with the grieving families of the deceased officers. While offering words of comfort, Ganduje emphasized the gravity of the loss, stating, “We are here not for celebrations but to offer our deepest sympathies to the families, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the people of Kano. The tragic death of these officers, who were returning from a national assignment, is a painful event for the entire nation.”
He highlighted that the APC and his government have a long-standing tradition of standing by families in moments of grief. Ganduje stressed the importance of showing solidarity and support during such difficult times, saying, “We are here to comfort the families and let them know that they are not alone in this sad moment. It is our duty to be present and offer our support when tragedy strikes.”
The unfortunate accident claimed the lives of five officers instantly, while ten others sustained various degrees of injuries. Ganduje lamented the devastating impact of the incident, noting that it was not just a loss for the police force but a national tragedy. He remarked, “This is a sad moment not only for the Police Force but for me personally and the entire nation. These brave officers were serving the country, and their untimely deaths are a significant blow to us all.”
The APC chairman further acknowledged the crucial role of law enforcement officers in maintaining national security, emphasizing that the loss of any officer in the line of duty is a tremendous sacrifice. He called on the government, the police force, and the public to continue supporting the families left behind, ensuring that their sacrifices are honored and remembered.
