The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Darius Ishaku, the former governor of Taraba State, over allegations of ₦27 billion fraud. Ishaku, who completed his eight-year tenure in 2023, was taken into custody at his Abuja residence early on Friday.

Sources within the EFCC confirmed that Ishaku remained in the agency’s custody as of Friday night. It was also revealed that at least 15 charges have been filed against him, and he will be arraigned in court soon, as the commission has compiled evidence against him.

“Yes, he’s in our custody right now. We have been investigating him covertly since he left as the state governor. There is a lot of financial malfeasance he perpetrated,” a source disclosed. Another source added that the former governor was detained after failing to provide satisfactory explanations regarding financial impropriety during his administration.

The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Ishaku’s arrest but declined to provide additional comments. The former governor’s arrest comes amid the ongoing face-off between the EFCC and the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, who is also facing allegations of misappropriating ₦80.2 billion.
