Artificial intelligence is increasingly making its mark across digital platforms, and Reddit is the latest to leverage this technology. Earlier this year, Reddit introduced a machine translation tool for its users in France, and now it’s expanding the feature to reach even more Redditors worldwide.
The newly launched AI translation tool allows users to convert their entire Reddit feed into their preferred language. This tool is being rolled out in over 35 countries, including Spain, Brazil, and Germany. It is accessible across all platforms, whether you’re using the mobile web, apps, or desktop.
Currently, Redditors in Brazil and Spain can simply tap the translate icon located in the overflow menu at the top right corner of the Reddit app to translate posts and comments into different language options. This enhancement means users can engage in conversations and participate in communities using their native language seamlessly.
Additionally, when someone shares a post or comment in their chosen language, it will be automatically translated into the community’s primary language. In the coming weeks, a banner will highlight these translated posts, providing users the option to view them in the original language. Translation options will be available through the post-overflow menus.
Reddit is also focused on improving content discovery in different languages. With the introduction of machine translation, translated Reddit posts will soon appear in search engine results, making it easier for users to find relevant discussions and communities.
This translation tool is a significant addition to the platform, helping to bridge language barriers and fostering closer connections among Reddit communities.
In other developments, Reddit has started testing another popular AI feature: AI-generated summaries. This aligns Reddit with other tech giants like Google, which offers AI Overviews, and Microsoft’s Bing, which has introduced AI-generated answers.
