The Take It Back Movement has proposed a virtual meeting with the Lagos State Police Command, citing logistical challenges that would prevent key members from attending physically. This comes after the police invited prominent members of the movement, including National Coordinator Sanyaolu Juwon, to meet with the new Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola.

The movement’s legal representatives, Inibehe Effiong Chambers, sent a letter to Assistant Commissioner of Police Jaiyeoba Joseph, explaining that several executive members are currently out of Lagos and would find it challenging to attend the meeting in person. Instead, they suggested a virtual meeting, which would allow all participants to join remotely and engage productively in discussions.

There were concerns within the organization that the invitation for a physical meeting might be a tactic to detain key figures of the movement. However, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin assured that the meeting would be friendly and that there is no intention of arresting anyone.

The planned meeting aims to address “issues of national interests,” including the group’s planned protest on October 1, 2024, tagged ‘FearlessInOctober.’ The protest seeks to address key national issues, such as economic hardship, rising inflation, and ongoing fuel scarcity, as part of the movement’s #EndBadGovernance campaign.

The Take It Back Movement is open to rescheduling the meeting for early October if a physical presence is deemed essential by the police. This development highlights the ongoing efforts of the movement to bring about change and the police’s efforts to engage with them in a constructive manner.
