FCT Primary School Teachers Protest Unpaid Minimum Wage Arrears

Teachers in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) staged a sit-in protest at area council secretariats, demanding payment of 25 months’ worth of minimum wage arrears and other entitlements. The protest, involving men, women, and nursing mothers, highlighted the council chairmen’s failure to pay despite receiving substantial allocations.

Protesters held placards expressing frustration over non-payment, leaving many in dire financial situations. Teachers shared personal struggles, including inability to afford school fees for their children.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) confirmed the sit-in, citing dissatisfaction with unfulfilled agreements. Despite meetings, no tangible solutions were presented.

Another meeting is scheduled for Thursday to discuss the issue.
