Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, has approved a reduction in the number of days public employees must work each week in order to save money on transportation.
The governor also announced an extension of palliative care payments to state employees for the next two months.
According to a statement released by the governor’s spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed, and received in Osogbo on Tuesday, the clearance is contained in a circular from the Office of the Head of Service.
According to the statement, this move is consistent with Adeleke’s dedication to worker well-being and a response to the country’s current economic condition.
The statement read, “By this circular, therefore, and until another directive is given, the working day schedules for public servants in the state have been approved as follows:
“Public servants on GL.01 to GL.10 – three days a week; public servants on GL.12 to GL.17 – four days a week.”
According to the circular, these arrangements do not apply to medical workers, security officers, political office holders, or accounting officers who are performing important responsibilities.
“It is also important to note that the arrangement regarding which days each public servant in the above categories will work shall be organised by the accounting officers in the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government.”
The statement added, “The governor has also graciously approved the continuation of palliative payments to public servants in the state for the next two months, pending the commencement of the new minimum wage.
“All accounting officers of Ministries, Departments, and government agencies, including Local Governments, have been directed to comply.”
