Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North has dismissed recent rumors regarding his death and claims of a medical check-up during his extended absence from Nigeria. Addressing the press at the National Assembly on Tuesday, the former governor of Abia State clarified that he had been on a study trip, not for any health-related reason.
Kalu explained that he had taken permission from Senate President Godswill Akpabio before embarking on the trip. “Listen, there was nothing wrong with me. I took permission from the Senate President about seven days before the Senate closed. I went for a little study in one of the universities that I paid for myself, not that anyone paid for me,” he said.
The senator further detailed that he attended courses on democracy and the economy for two months, utilizing the legislative recess for self-improvement.
“I did not die. I didn’t go for any medical check-up,” Kalu stressed. “But if people say I have died, we give thanks to God.”
With these remarks, Kalu aimed to put an end to the widespread speculation regarding his health and whereabouts.
