The Lagos State Government has graduated over 500 beneficiaries of its Liveskills Economic Empowerment Programme, popularly known as Short Term Skill Acquisition Training.
The ceremony honored the accomplishments of the recipients from the Sanni Agbesinga Community in Alimosho and the Parafa Alagemo Community in Ikorodu North.
More than 15,000 people have been trained in a variety of vocations since Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu took office, including cosmetic artistry, cooking, soap-making, and event planning.
Each beneficiary received critical starter bundles to help them in their entrepreneurial pursuits.
Mrs Bolaji Dada, Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, emphasized the program’s complete approach, which includes training in entrepreneurial skills, health awareness, and environmental safety.
She was represented during the ceremony by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Oluyemi Kalesanwo.
“This event signifies not just the conclusion of a training program but the dawn of new opportunities for all participants,”
They emphasized the need of using the skills taught to drastically improve participants’ economic circumstances.
The Commissioner praised the participants’ devotion and perseverance, asking them to apply their new talents to strengthen their communities and inspire future generations.
“Even in retirement, you can create a formidable force for positive change,” she affirmed.
Dada promised participants of the government’s continuous support and revealed plans for more training programs for women and youth in various locations throughout Lagos State.
She thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering dedication to ending poverty and encouraging financial independence for women.
In her vote of gratitude, Olufunke Shyllon, Director of the Women’s Department at WAPA, urged participants to see the skills they learned as essential assets. She assured delegates that the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Team would guarantee that the empowerment packs were used properly to achieve their intended effects.
Local leaders, such as Adeniran Ogunbawo, Chairman of the Community Development Association in Ikorodu North, and Olalekan Erinle, Secretary of the Community Development Association in Sanni Agbesinga, described the training program as transformative, citing its potential to improve local communities, stimulate economic growth, and combat poverty at the grassroots level.
