The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that 98.23 percent of the results from Saturday’s Edo State governorship election have been uploaded to its Results Viewing Portal (IReV) as of the time of filing this report.
Out of 4,519 polling units across the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo, results from 4,439 units have been successfully uploaded, leaving just 80 units yet to be processed.
By Saturday evening, 90.33 percent of the results had already been uploaded to the IReV portal. According to the current figures, the governorship race is a close contest between the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
Other candidates, including the Labour Party’s Akpata, have been knocked out of contention.
The election covers over 2.2 million registered voters across the state, all holding Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, reassured the public of the electronic transmission of results, highlighting the transparency of the process.
