The Katsina State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in combating crime by arresting a 7-man syndicate of notorious armed robbers. These suspects had been terrorizing motorists on the Kano-Zaria Road, using stones to barricade the road, tying up drivers, and stealing valuables from them and commuters.

Thanks to intelligence gathered by operatives from the Funtua Area Command, the suspects were caught on September 8, 2024, at around 2:00 a.m. The police recovered stolen goods worth approximately N4 million, including 94 bundles of wrappers and lace materials, and two bundles of other materials. Further investigations revealed that the suspects had also stolen grains and cooking oil on multiple occasions, using two vehicles to facilitate their crimes.

The police also recovered a Volkswagen Golf III saloon and a Ford Focus loaded with stolen items. In addition to this, three other suspects – Janaidu Yusuf, Abubakar Dahiru, and Murtala Halliru – were arrested on August 28, 2024, for possession of an illegal firearm, a locally fabricated gun with four rounds of live ammunition.

In another success, the police arrested a notorious motorcycle thief, Bala Muhammad, and recovered a stolen vehicle. The suspect was caught during a routine patrol on September 8, 2024, at around 3:00 a.m.

The police are still investigating these cases and working to identify and arrest any remaining suspects. This is not the first time the Katsina State Police Command has made headlines for combating crime – they previously busted a 6-man syndicate of suspected notorious armed robbers terrorizing Filin Polo quarters of Katsina metro.
