The Borno government claims it has received more than N12 billion in monetary and material donations for victims of the Alau Dam flood tragedy in Maiduguri.
Abdurrahman Bundi, the Senior Special Adviser on New Media to Borno Governor, provided an update on donations to the Maiduguri Relief Fund on Thursday in Maiduguri.
Bundi stated that the donations came from corporations, state governments, State and National Assembly members, individuals, and non-governmental organizations.
The North East Development Commission provided N3 billion and food, while Aliko Dangote gave N2 billion, Aminu Dantata gave N1.5 billion, and Mohammed Indimi gave N1 billion.
Other donors were Borno LGAs (N1.2 billion), Oluremi Tinubu (N500 million), Bauchi and Niger states (N250 million each), and Southern Borno residents (N200 million).
Dahiru Mangal, Atiku Abubakar, Rep. Mukhtar Betara, Ali Modu Sheriff, House of Representatives, Abdulsalam Kachala, and JAIZ Bank states of Kebbi, Yobe, Kano, Taraba, Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara each contributed N100.
Buba Marwa, the Director General of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Matrix Energy both gave ten trucks of fertiliser and food valued more than N120 million.
Adamawa state, Mr Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwakwanso, Ahmed Lawan, Mohammad Maifata, Ibrahim Umar, Mohammad Imam, Ali Dalori, Bauchi APC chapter, Sen. Tahir Monguno, Sen. Kaka Kaka Shehu, and I8th Engineering Company donated N50 million, while the State Assembly contributed N60 million.
The Nasarawa government also delivered six trucks of rice, pasta, and sugar.
Many other people donated between N1 million and N30 million each.
