The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has sealed off the popular Idera Market in Oshodi for breaching environmental regulations. This action was confirmed on Thursday by the Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Cole (rtd), as part of ongoing efforts to enforce cleanliness in the state’s markets.

Cole explained that KAI operatives monitoring the Oshodi division observed unsanitary conditions, including the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and unhygienic practices in the market. This prompted the decision to seal the market until further notice.

He expressed concern over the poor hygiene levels at Idera Market, warning that such conditions could lead to illness and disease outbreaks among vendors and buyers. “Markets must embrace hygienic practices to prevent the spread of diseases,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, Cole revealed that the market’s leadership failed to provide a valid waste collection contract, contributing to the accumulation of refuse. He issued a stern warning to other markets across Lagos, stating that KAI operatives would continue monitoring them and that any market found violating environmental standards would also be sealed until full compliance is achieved.
